Italian energy company Enel throught its Brazilian subsidiary is planning to invest 1.8 billion euros ($2.12 billion) in the next three years, with an emphasis on distribution networks, executives told Brazilian newspaper Valor on Wednesday (Nov.22).
Enel plans to invest about 1.5 billion euros in distribution networks and 300 million euros finishing renewable energy projects under construction in Brazil.
The company seems to be interested in some distribution units being sold off by state-run electricity giant Eletrobras.
Enel is one of largest private companies in the Brazilian energy sector and play a leading role in developing renewable energy sources in the country. The company is present throughout the energy chain operating in generation, conversion, transmission and sales as well as energy solutions.
Enel Brasil has its headquarters in Niteroi (state of Rio de Janeiro)and operate in 18 Brazilian states. Through two distributors in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Ceara and Goias, it brings energy to around 10 million residential, commercial, industrial, rural and public sector customers.
Enel is leader in solar energy generation in the country in both installed capacity and project portfolio. It operates the largest solar plant in Brazil in the state of Pernambuco and is building four solar plants, two of which the largest in Latin America. The company is are also the biggest wind-power players in the Brazilian marketplace.
