Brazilian lawmakers meet with Iranian Foreign Ministry official

A delegation of Brazilian lawmakers and business people held a meeting in Tehran with ranking Iranian Foreign Ministry officials for talks on closer ties. The visiting Brazilian lawmakers arrived in Tehran in the middle of the week and held a meeting with the Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Tuesday.

Brazil-Iran parliamentary friendship group met and talked with the Director General for Americas at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Keshavarz Zadeh in Tehran. In the meeting, Keshavarz Zadeh hailed the 120-year old Iran-Brazil relations and called for expansion of ties between the two countries in the economic field.

The chairman of the Brazil-Iran parliamentary friendship group, in turn, hailed Iran’s important role in creating peace and stability in the region, expressing Brazil’s Congress readiness to further expand bilateral relations.

Iran’s Foreign Minister and a large Iranian politico-economic delegation visited Brazil last month as part of a 4-nation tour and held meetings with different high-ranking officials there to develop economic relations with the largest South American country.

In the meeting, the Iranian diplomat hailed the long history of relations between the two countries, pointing to the ample opportunities for the enhancement of economic interaction in the industrial, agricultural and trade fields.

The head of the Brazilian delegation, for his turn, highlighted Iran’s leading role in the Middle East and its contribution to peace and stability, voicing the National Congress of Brazil’s readiness to help broaden the bilateral relations.

“Brazil is one the world’s major economies, the main economy in Latin America, and also a BRICS member,â€? Zarif told reporters in Brazil, saying Iran supplied the South American country’s energy demands in the past and can now work with it in the oil and gas industry.
