Bolsonaro Takes Office As the 38th President of Brazil



Bolsonaro signs term of office and is officially president of Brazil. On oath, Bolsonaro and the vice-president, General Hamilton Mourao, committed themselves to “to maintain, to defend and to fulfill the Constitution”

Jair Bolsonaro officially became president of Brazil on Tuesday, Jan. 1st after taking an oath of respect for the Constitution and signing the term of office in a ceremony at the National Congress.

In the brief oath, Bolsonaro and the vice president, General Antonio Hamilton Martins Mourão, pledged to “maintain, defend and comply with the Constitution, observe the laws, promote the general good of the Brazilian people, sustain unity, integrity, and independence of Brazil”.

Now, Bolsonaro will make a speech to the parliamentarians and then he will continue in procession to the Palace of the Planalto, where it will receive the presidential strip.

The session was chaired by the President of the Senate, Eunice Oliviera, and also attended by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Dias Toffoli, and the Attorney General of the Republic, Raquel Dodge.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by hundreds of parliamentarians, who filled the plenary of the National Congress.
