President Jair Bolsonaro acknowledged in an interview on Tuesday evening that the government still does not have the 308 votes in the House of Representatives to approve the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution, and said the ball is now in the field of Congress.
“The House is meeting the deadlines, but we know it has noises, that for now, I think we still do not have the 308 votes still needed,“ Bolsonaro told in an interview with SBT TV. “I’m at their disposal, to talk to me, I’ll come to the night to talk without a problem. The ball is with Parliament now.“
In defense of the proposal, the main reform presented by the government to Congress, Bolsonaro said that if the measure is not approved Brazil will break until 2022. “If we do not take this measure now, the irresponsibility of that moment will cost much more expensive for everyone there in the front, “he said.
As it is a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC), the Social Security reform needs 308 votes in two rounds of voting in the House and 49 votes, also in two rounds in the Senate, to be approved.
The matter is currently being dealt with by a special committee of the Chamber, and the government has been working with the prospect of approving the reform in the House plenary in the first half.
On Tuesday, the president of the Special Social Security Committee, MP Marcelo Ramos (PL-AM), said that Bolsonaro has no “notion of priority“ to go to the Chamber to deliver a bill that deals with changes in the Traffic Code in the same when a seminar on social security reform was held.
