Starting this week, American citizens that wish to visit Brazil may apply online for a visa for a $40 fee, one-fourth of the $160 fee applicants were previously charged at consulates.
The e-visa system turns operational to Americans weeks before the Brazilian government is expected to sign an “open skies” agreement with the United States.
The pact that will allow market forces to set flight frequencies and destinations between the two countries has been already approved by Brazil’s Congress lower House and its is expected to be approved in February by the Senate.
