Judge Sergio Moro has ordered the immediate imprisonment of former President Lula da Silva. Lula has not been tried for political reasons, but for corruption and money laundering in the Petrobras case. It is impressive to see to what extent the international press has been seduced by the leftist discourse of Lula and his Workers’ Party.
The alleged defender of the poor and the workers is responsible for Brazil’s biggest social catastrophe, which left 13 million people unemployed, drove thousands of businesses into bankruptcy, introduced kickbacks in neighboring countries, encouraged bloodthirsty dictators to massacre their defenseless peoples in Latin America and Africa.
Yet many American and European newspapers twist the truth by showing Lula da Silva as being the victim of a “right-wing conspiracy,” the presidential candidate preferred by society. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The immense majority of Brazilians, from all social classes, has understood that Lula and his populist discourse were no more than a farce to hide a corruption frenzy.
At the same time that Lula is depicted as a victim, the international press points to Temer as conservative president, leader of a current opposed to the workers. False. Temer was always the faithful defender of the Workers’ Party and elected vice president with Dilma Rousseff.
The same Brazilians who ask for the arrest of Lula da Silva, they are 90 percent of the population, also ask that investigate the crimes attributed to the group of Temer.
It is no longer a right and left issue, populist or elitist, today what every Brazilian wants is to have a country governed by honest and decent people. Take away the political and corrupt bad guys from the administration, the Congress and the Courts of Justice.
